It’s A Family Tradition

By: Laurie Gallardo

The Pinky Rings

Look, if you are of a certain…time, you hear someone say “family tradition” and you may break out into song about the more unsavory things you’ve inherited genetically, so to speak. But that’s not what the AMM is talking about today. This is about Feels So Good Records/Prints presenting Family Tradition, a damn good time with badass live music and equally badass shopping with a full vendors market.

Doors open at 4 p.m. for this free event, and the line-up includes an array of AMM faves: Lord Friday the 13th, The Pinky Rings (“Bodega Babies” is featured on today’s Austin Music Minute), The Bad Lovers, Aaron McDonnell, and Wes Coleman. The music kicks off at 5 p.m. Don’t miss a single set, fam.

Golden

Before the intricate finger picking of Longriver, songwriter David Longoria was striking chords on a different plane with artists such as longtime AMM fave Bill Baird, and shredders like …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. The Weight

Following their 2020 debut Cranberry Stream, electronic/experimental rock outfit Glasshealer released a new EP this month, But the Weight of Comfort Pulled Me Back Down. Taking inspiration from their own technological prowess (audio engineering experience is a huge plus), exploratory soundscapes, and influences that include Bjork, Radiohead, Sigor Ros, even something vaguely Kraftwerk-ian in this […]

10 Years of Honky Tonkin’

Ten years. Has it really flown by so quickly? It seems like only yesterday when Denis O’Donnell and Nathan Hill opened up the White Horse in 2011, in what used to be a Tejano bar of…slightly questionable repute. If you were to ask Hill or O’Donnell, they will confirm that the popular East Austin honky […]

All In Your Head

The fusion of styles and seemingly impetuous melodic shifts on Kendra Sells‘ incredible solo debut EP, All In Your Head, is a study in intuitive motion. All these thoughts leaping about at once that, though not necessarily smoothly connected, have an undeniably natural flow. Sells brings a few jazz vibes from their time in Austin […]
