Ten years. Has it really flown by so quickly? It seems like only yesterday when Denis O’Donnell and Nathan Hill opened up the White Horse in 2011, in what used to be a Tejano bar of…slightly questionable repute.
If you were to ask Hill or O’Donnell, they will confirm that the popular East Austin honky tonk at 500 Comal St. is haunted. But many more memories and spectacular occasions have lit the ol’ place up since the White Horse came to be. (Can you say: Whiskey on tap?) It’s been ten years of glorious music, dancing and good times, an entire decade of hosting hundreds of bands playing country/western, bluegrass, folk, soul, cumbia and beyond. They fill up that damn dance floor ’til folks may as well be two-stepping on the pool table.
To celebrate their anniversary, the White Horse is presenting a bunch shows featuring artists who have graced the White Horse stage over the years. The party kicks off tomorrow night, Thursday Dec. 9, with Mike & The Moonpies, Jonathan Terrell, and The Saddle Sores. The celebrations continue through Dec. 19, featuring shows with The Golden Roses, Croy and The Boys, Conjunto Los Pinkys, Garrett T. Capps, Kathryn Legendre, Leo Rondeau, hometown hoodlums Clyde & Clem’s Whiskey Business, longtime AMM fave Mayeux and Broussard and many others.
It’s more than a party, darlin’. This would be a (Lone Star) state of mind.
