Mike Fuller: “Ms. Wrong”

By: Jack Anderson

Aside from the unique influences you’d only get from having a church organist and a cover band’s lead singer as parents, Mike Fuller‘s been finalizing his own folk-rock style more-or-less all on his own. Fuller only dropped his debut EP The Human Condition last September, but he’s spent the past decade perfecting what’s become his sophomore record, The Missed Connection.

The Missed Connection‘s three originals were born all the way back in 2010 and after undergoing a few different iterations and a ton of tender loving care, they were tracked in Brooklyn at the top of 2021 and are finally ready to be shared with the world. The Missed Connection is out this fall and its driving lead single “Ms. Wrong”, which came out last week, is just right for someone who needs an extra bit of kick to keep ’em rolling through the rest of the work week.

They’re both must-hear Austin mainstays for a damn good reason; The Bright Light Social Hour continues to innovate a sweet-yet-sinister indie-psych sound while Riders Against the […]

Nolina: “Tourist”

Decades after acts like Les Paul & Mary Ford, Captain & Tenille, and Ike & Tina had their heyday, seeing the phrase “husband-and-wife duo” can personally make me wince. Like we get it; you love each other, you’ve got great chemistry together, and you have a lot of emotions you need to dispense, but often, […]

Scone Cash Players: “Cold 40s”

Contemporary curators for some of the best instrumental genres (namely jazz) seem to be fearless when it comes to digital hi-fi production. But thankfully, some of the finest facilitators of the funk-soul sound still prefer the “authentic” old school character of analogue techniques. Amongst them is Hammond organ extraordinaire Adam Scone. Scone and his magic […]

Purbayan Chatterjee & Rakesh Chaurasia: “Pahadi”

If you’re a lover of traditional Indian music like I am, you won’t want to miss a certain concert in town this weekend. Just two weeks after the release of their seven-song full-length Saath Saath, Mumbai sitar maestro Purbayan Chatterjee and flautist Rakesh Chaurasia are set to perform 7PM this Saturday at Bates Recital Hall. […]
