Love Austin Music Month: Sir Woman

By: Laurie Gallardo

Kelsey Wilson of Sir Woman

It’s a kind of ’70s soul vibe that draws you in to Sir Woman. Singer Kelsey Wilson has the smooth vocal delivery that owns that sensuality. The multi-Austin Music Award winning band redefines love songs with extra heat on their full-length R&B-fueled debut Party City, with backing vocalists Spice and Roy Jr. as the perfect pairing to Wilson’s dynamic versatility.

Today’s Love Austin Music Month edition of the AMM recommends Sir Woman’s residency at The Continental Club, 1315 S. Congress Ave. Their show tomorrow night, Thursday Jan. 26, includes a set by soul rockers Motenko and guitarist/vocalist Cat Clemons, starting out the night at 10 p.m. To describe the night as explosive doesn’t even begin to cover it.

A Fistful of Tango

Having a film score performed live at a screening makes it all the more electrifying – and, in the case of reimagining the silent western The Return of Draw Egan, even more hysterically funny. Waterloo Records: Erin Ivey

Late January marked the release of Erin Ivey‘s LP Solace In the Wild, and the totally swoon-worthy “Where Have You Been All My Life?” landed a spot on the KUTX Song of the Day. Ivey’s striking vocals tend to evoke a myriad of feels simultaneously:  Swoons, sadness, sultriness; love overflow and lingering loss. Taking a […]

Virtual Gallery: Luisa Lopez

Houston-born singer/songwriter/self-taught multi-instrumentalist Luisa Lopez reveres the Southern roots of her mother’s side of the family, but writes the kind of music meant to transcend any borders, geographically or otherwise. Don’t fence it in. The influences run the spectrum, and Lopez delights in keeping the listener on their toes. Lopez grew up listening to a […]
