Goldpine: “Understand”

By: Taylor Wallace

The husband-and-wife duo Goldpine have been on quite a streak. The Nashvillians have made a name for themselves with accolades and opportunities that include winning the 2022 Rocky Mountain Songwriter contest, several invitations to perform at the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, performing the national anthem at a Kansas City Chiefs game, and that’s before we get into all of the stateside Americana and folk festivals.

The rich harmonies drip stories about every facet of life, with a sound that can be delicate and reminiscent or raucous as all get out. Their latest single “Understand,” despite being filled out with just a guitar, tambourine, and little human percussion, is deep with soul–the kind that comes with a life lived. And this love song bares it all as it gets down to one particularly complicated part of relationships: communication, not just in the first years, but over a decade down the line. And after you’re done listening, might I suggest writing a sweet note to your partner with three things you love most about them.

Three is out July 11th. Goldpine play Quack’s Bakery October 9th.

Judy Blank: “Toy Heart” [Backstage at ACL Fest]

Growing up in the Netherlands, Judy Blank fostered an early love for classic American cinema.
