Niia: “Whatever You Got”

By: Jack Anderson

Pain is all part of the human condition, and if there’s one artist in Los Angeles who can appreciate the beauty in that, it’s Niia. Niia’s got a strong foundation in both the traditional Italian and classical jazz vocal styles and with the help of Rhye producer and frequent collaborator Robin Hannibal, she brings it all together on trickling, groove-heavy trip-hop that’s not without its own ’80s R&B/Quiet Storm influences.

Niia’s just announced her sophomore album II: La Bella Vita for the appropriate release date of Valentine’s Day, so before you soak up this baker’s dozen of Sade-esque songs, be sure to enjoy “Whatever You Got”!

But the town also has secrets. On “Mary Singletary,” […]

Restos: “No Cigar

Austin’s Restos turn close calls and near misses into an indie-rock anthem on “No Cigar.” With jangly guitars, a driving rhythm, and just the right amount of grit, the track captures the feeling of chasing something that’s always a little out of reach—and having a good time anyway.

Daisy O’Connor: “LIRR”

It gives me such joy to see Daisy O’Connor returning to the studio and the stage. The Austin-based, genre-fluid singer-songwriter took an unexpectedly long break from gigging and songwriting, feeling the block and burnout from relentless touring. Then, on a trip to New York City, the Concrete Jungle worked its magic, and inspiration struck. “LIRR” […]

For KindKeith, love is collective and nonlinear.
