Hotel Vegas & The Volstead’s 11th Anniversary Party
It’s been 11 years since Hotel Vegas and The Volstead started hosting shows on E. 6th in what was, at the time, the polar opposite vibe of Dirty Sixth. The small East Austin venues soon earned their rep for being the go-to spots for cool shows/DJ sets by local and touring artists, from the coziest […]

The summer of 2015 was a breaking point for Jolie Cota Flink. Worn down by health issues and crumbling relationships, Flink turned to writing the songs that led to the debut of Mean Jolene, and their first album, Salty. Putting that roller coaster trip into music was the ultimate release – grit, open wounds, unmasked […]

Pearl Z puts in the work. As any full-time musician will tell you, it’s a lot. Endless. Flora and Fawna at Hotel Vegas
Hearing music by an Austin artist or band on a nationwide TV show never gets old. Ever. Earlier this year, KUTX Artist of the Month alumnus Flora and Fawna had “Slow Burn,” the mega-chill/ultra-cool opener from their 2019 self-titled debut, on a recent episode of The CW series Batwoman. Catch official SXSW artists Flora and […]

You know that distinctive howl in the night, only this time, The Ghost Wolves bring their badass blues-rock into a darker realm. Two new singles from the ATX duo’s forthcoming LP Never Die, “Devil’s Vine” and recent KUTX Song of the Day “End of It All,” are both awesomely unsettling, creepily stalking at a decidedly […]
About
It’s like a marker for your day. When you hear, “It’s time for the Austin Music Minute …” you’ll hear about music artists you need to keep on your radar. Though Laurie Gallardo has been the voice of the AMM for several years, she inherited the short music feature from longtime radio host Teresa Ferguson. It was Teresa who encouraged Laurie to mix it up – make it about local artists’ shows at much-loved Austin venues, as well as touring music acts from all parts of the world. The AMM gets you information about the show – who, what, when and where – and includes a quick preview of the featured artist’s latest music that will hopefully inspire you to check out more. And here’s an important behind-the-scenes detail: Laurie Gallardo not only puts her voice on the Austin Music Minute, she is the editor and producer. She records, edits and puts the finishing touches on the AMM’s you’ve come to rely on.
Laurie Gallardo
Laurie Gallardo is an afternoon show host and producer on KUTX 98.9, making the rounds on the airwaves 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. She’s committed to creating the soundtrack for your afternoon, and to keeping folks posted on shows happening around town with the Austin Music Minute, a short feature heard throughout the day on KUTX spotlighting local and touring music artists.
