Pearl Z at Far Out Lounge

By: Laurie Gallardo

Pearl Z puts in the work. As any full-time musician will tell you, it’s a lot. Endless. Many pivotal moments and personal changes led to the path she’s on today, which includes recording and touring with Kalu and The Electric Joint and as a lead vocalist for Sly and The Family Stone/Curtis Mayfield cover band Sly Curtis. But the Austin-born songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is built for the journey, constantly inspired by her favorite artists – Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, Beyonce, Madonna, Lizzo – who shook up an industry that still requires shaking-up to this day.

“I say this because I want to shine a light on women in the industry in hopes of inspiring other women and young girls to believe in the power within themselves to accomplish whatever it is they desire,” Pearl Z told Shoutout DFW in an August 2020 interview. “Learning about the actual lives of these people (and many more) has inspired me greatly to continue pushing forward with my career goals.”

More is on the horizon from the PearlZWorld solo project, and you can see a performance by Pearl Z tomorrow night, Wednesday March 9, at the Far Out Lounge and Stage. She shares the bill with ATX psych trio Dayeater. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the music starts at 8 p.m.

Black Rainbows

We’re all guilty of building up expectations. So, you might spin Corinne Bailey Rae‘s latest blazer Black Rainbows and find it something of a departure for Rae, in terms of a style that incorporates R&B, jazz and soul. This one gets loud, bold, experimental in many parts, powered by guitar and unapologetic vitality, all inspired […]
