Yes. It’s a lot. But how can one pick just a couple of showcases when there’s so much to see? These are the Austin Music Minute‘s SXSW picks for tonight, Wednesday March 16:
- SXSBreaks at Pour Choices, 401 E. 6th St., hosted by Fresh Knight and Confucious Jones and featuring Mike Melinoe, David Shabani (pictured above), EC Mayne, Chakeeta B and more.
- Some awesome sets at Cedar Street Courtyard with Glasgow artist Joesef, Manchester band Calva Louise, and London dynamic duo Nova Twins.
- A big show at Central Presbyterian Church with Perfume Genius, Kimbra, Fly Anakin, Sarah Kinsley and Jenny Owen Youngs (yes, there’s an “s” at the end of that).
- A showcase at Cheer Up Charlie’s featuring J Soulja, Chicago-based band Horsegirl and and Copenhagen-based composer Astrid Sonne.
- An incredible electronic showcase at Iron Bear, with Miami band Donzii, Los Angeles duo Polyplastic, and Berlin artist Ava Vegas.
- San Gabriel plays a showcase at Las Perlas that includes San Francisco songwriter Mae Powell.
- The Living Pins play at Low Down, 1412 E. 6th, with Memphis band Blvck Hippie, and Columbus, OH avant-garage band DANA.
- Spaceflight Records showcase at Easy Tiger East, with S.L. Houser, The Tender Things, Slomo Drags, Hong Kong Wigs (featured on today’s AMM), and Sailor Poon.
Hong Kong Wigs - Trucha Soul DJ’s at Hotel Vegas, line-up with En Orbito, El Combo Oscuro, Superfónicos, Volcán, Bombasta, El Tule, Nohe & Sus Santos, and Chorizo Funk.
- An all-Austin showcase at The Venue ATX, 516 E. 6th. features Quentin and The Past Lives, Eimaral Sol, Lesly Reynaga, Kiko Villamizar, Betty Soo, Shiela and Nagavalli.
And a few more badass shout-outs of note: DJ Shani is spinning at Coconut Club; Curtis McMurtry performs at a showcase at Lamberts; Pleasure Venom will melt your face off at Lustre Pearl; and a showcase at The Continental Club, featuring Jake Lloyd, Lisa Morales, KUTX March Artist of the Month Sir Woman, Je Texas, and The Texas Gentlemen.
