Samantha Crain at Radio Coffee and Beer

By: Laurie Gallardo

In the early stages of the pandemic, all creature comforts and personal connections took on a greater importance. Isolation tends to do that. Life moments taken for granted or easily brushed aside felt magnified. Intense moments became unbearable. It makes perfect sense that a beautiful, reflective EP like I Guess We Live Here Now by award-winning songwriter Samantha Crain was conceived during lockdown in her hometown of Norman, OK. Following extended periods of constant touring, Crain reconnected in profound ways with those familiar but not-so-familiar surroundings, after being on the road for so long. The narrator throughout the EP’s four tracks grapples with the uncertainty of everything, and the power of resiliency.

By the way, there’s an ATX connection to this EP: It was mixed and mastered by Erik Wofford of Cacophony Recorders. Superb.

Crain performs in Austin tonight, Saturday April 23, at Radio Coffee and Beer in South Austin, sharing a bill with Little Mazarn. Doors open at 7 p.m.
