College hadn’t done much to nurture Torre Blake‘s lifelong love of music. After receiving a full volleyball scholarship from East Carolina University, the focus was mainly on athletics. Yet the Austin native knew something was missing. As soon as she returned home after graduating, the burgeoning songwriter put music front and center, and never looked back.

This is a voice raising R&B in the ATX to higher levels. Check out “Ain’t Thinkin,'” an AMM fave, and today’s featured track “Pipedream, one Blake penned about two years ago. Though performing it regularly at shows, it had not been recorded until recently, and was released in May this year.

Torre Blake is on the bill tomorrow night, Sunday September 5, at The Far Out Lounge and Stage, 8504 S. Congress Ave., opening for David Shabani, along with Hanani. Doors open at 6 p.m.

And please remember to bring your mask.

*Special shoutout to Johnny Goudie’s How Did I Get Here? podcast interview with Torre Blake.
