NYE (Virtual) Party Time

By: Laurie Gallardo

As eternal badass Gina Chavez put it on a recent Instagram story, “STAY AT HOME and shake it with us!”

The Austin Music Minute proudly presents some awesome picks for your New Year’s Eve celebrations online, all enjoyed from the safety of your casita, your very own Party Central. No cover. Generous pours for your drinks. Best seat in the house. And plenty of room on the dance floor.

-The mighty Lucinda Williams presents her online series Lu’s Jukebox, Episode 6A Tribute to The Rolling Stones. The party kicks off at 7 p.m. (Central), and ticket info is available at Lucinda Williams’ website.

-The City of Austin’s Official Virtual New Year’s Eve Celebration includes performances by Shakey Graves, Gina Chavez, Como Las Movies (“La Inconforme” is featured on today’s AMM), Jake Lloyd and more, at various iconic Austin venues. The show starts at 8 p.m. (Central). Watch online at YouTube, the CoA’s social media and on cable TV.

-Groove master Henry Invisible invites you to hop on board the NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY TRAIN 2021 Zoom party, departing the station at 10 p.m. (Central). Register to get your invitation. Mad grooves abound, and virtual balloon drop. BOOM. Bootsy Collins-approved, baby.

-Out of this world, presented with cubist energy for your viewing pleasure. In a way. Or perhaps an awesomely mind-boggling array of color, texture and sound, described by the artist as a kind of “spiritual enema.” Bill Baird transforms your online NYE shenanigans into his first online performance, THE CUBE. Fold space and time at 10 p.m. (Central) on Baird’s Twitch channel.

-Tomorrow, soothe your hungover soul with a solo performance by Nnedi Nebula of Trouble In the Streets. New music, lo-fi easy listening spins, readings and…there may be an LED dance party, just sayin’. 7 p.m. (Central) New Year’s Day on Nnedi’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

What’s Yr Damage

Following the breakup of their previous psych-gaze band Creepoid, Anna and Patrick Troxell forged an electro post-punk dynamic as the duo Lovelorn. And now the ATX-by-way-of Philly outfit is ramping things up with two new additions to the line-up, guitarists Steve Pike and Kyle Harris. No doubt extra shreds will add even more discordant dimensions […]
