Love Austin Music: Urban Heat

By: Laurie Gallardo

Brace yourself for an enthusiastic onslaught of adjectives. Today’s Love Austin Music Month feature on the AMM brings you a lightning rod of dark electro/proto-punk/new wave/synth wave/part goth/part industrial sound that is all the things but…simultaneously transcending them into something fresher. It’s the portal that leads your ears to Urban Heat. Jonathan Horstmann, Kevin Naquin and Paxel Foley started releasing Urban Heat tracks in 2019. Mad love for these pulsating analog adventure times, and more are on the horizon.

Urban Heat is part of yet another fantastic line-up in a residency show starring electro-pop trio KVN tomorrow night, Thursday Jan. 27, at the Mohawk. They’re joined by Belgrade-born Austin-based pop artist Arya. Doors open at 7 p.m. And please remember to bring your mask.

Croy at Bud’s

Tip o’ the hat to Corey Baum of Croy and the Boys for doing it no other way than keeping it real. Quite simply, he’s living the reality. An album like Howdy High Rise (released via Spaceflight Records) so accurately pinpoints how the very culture of Austin is being dissolved by exploitative, bourgeois elitism that […]

I Want My Hotel Free TV

Live music shows are, for the most part, still on pause, so it’s great to have a platform like Hotel Free TV keeping the momentum going. Actually, the “DIY life support machine for the local music scene” makes it an all-out virtual celebration of non-genre-defined music, art and performance, all in vibrant supersaturated color.
