Like all livestreams at the beginning of the pandemic, Black Fret‘s endeavor started on slightly shaky footing on the technical end of things. But the good vibes – and thousands of viewers – picked up the pace in no time. Black Fret founders Colin Kendrick and Matt Ott knew it was a pivotal moment for many in the local music community. Live shows were completely shut down. Hopefully, this would be one way to keep the music going, and to keep Black Fret’s mission of providing grants and mentoring to Austin music artists on track.
This weekend, the event that started as a livestream will be a three-day in-person event to garner potential new support for Black Fret recipients. The Keep Live Music Alive Festival will feature performances from one hell of a line-up: Jake Lloyd, Ley Line, J Soulja, Buffalo Hunt, Harry Edohoukwa, Mike Melinoe, Eimaral Sol, Nané, Darkbird, Deezie Brown, Motenko, Night Blooms, Sam Houston and Blk Odyssy, and many more.
The festival kicks off at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Friday May 14, and continues through Sunday May 16 at The Long Center, W. Riverside Dr., on the H-E-B Terrace. This socially-distanced event includes tickets for Black Fret membership as well as the general public. Details can be found at Black Fret’s website.
