Late Wife: “Creature Creature”

By: Taylor Wallace

Just over a year after releasing their debut EP Demo Tapes, Austin’s Late Wife are breadcrumbing our eager ears with new singles this spring. Out today, “Creature Creature” was the first tune Frankie Conover wrote after an unintended decade-long hiatus in songwriting. Inspired by the currents and colors of the San Marcos River, the song is about relinquishing control and trusting the current of life to take us where we need to be. Moving like a current, “Creature Creature” oscillates between dark and downtempo and raucous catharsis, and purposely isn’t dressed in airs or instilled with weighty metaphors; it’s simply about life’s perpetual momentum forward.

Late wife plays tonight at Austin Garden & Studio on E. 6th.
