Episode 3 of “72 Hours in Newport” features Austin-based alternative R&B crooner, Jake Lloyd! In this episode, our confessor shares an intimate story of discovering her bi-polar diagnosis while traveling through China and opens up about how she’s dealt with it since. Later; Walker hashes it out with Jake about some of the ways they manage their own mental health, mutual love of Nate Dogg, Bootsy Collins, and if the Austin music scene is rising up to be actively more inclusive for black artists.

Walker and Gordy Quist (of BOH) discuss the power of family origin stories and the making of “Black Cat.”

The Song Confessional Podcast returns after many months in quarantine. Back in March, the SC put out the call for confessions about people’s pandemic experiences. Turns out people are still falling in and out of love while staying inside. The Love In Quarantine mini-season features original songs from Kam Franklin (The Suffers), GGOOLLDD, Esme Patterson, and Royal Teeth as well as a brand new theme song from Walker & the crew.

This Song: Introducing The Song Confessional Podcast!
This week we have a special treat for you! A full episode of the new Song Confessional Podcast! The Song Confessional project began when Austin artists Walker Lukens and Zac Cantanzaro outfitted a trailer like a Catholic confessional and asked people to come in, and tell anonymous “confessions.” Then they took their favorite stories and gave them to musicians, who wrote and recorded songs based on the tales. In the podcast you hear it all, the confessional, the song, and an interview with the songwriter.
In this episode you’ll hear a tale of family, weed and secrets, the song it inspired written by Brooklyn based Vlad Holiday, and an interview with Holiday about his boozy creative process.

This year, Austin’s Walker Lukens released his second album Tell It To The Judge, produced by Spoon’s Jim Eno. It’s a hook-laden mix of pop, rock, electronic, and obtuse lyrics, music that you can emotionally understand without necessarily literally understanding.
