Major Murphy: “Mary”

By: Art Levy

Major Murphy is a trio hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan who so far has only released a pair of EPs. But the small canvases suit the band well, especially on its new single “Mary.” It’s built around the group’s close harmonizing and intimate use of space, sounding like the old-school way of making records: three people sitting in a room together, creating music in real-time. The songwriting itself is also classicist, displaying a love of the ’70s singer-songwriter tradition. Listen below.
