Christina Cavazos: “Mile Marker” (Live in Studio 1A)

By: Taylor Wallace

At 17, Christina Cavazos sounds and writes like she’s been making and performing music for at least that long, commanding full rooms with songwriting that strikes the perfect balance between low-key and intriguing paired with a floating voice that can only be described as rich and lovely. Recently accepted into the prestigious Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU, Cavazos is also coming upon the anniversary of her debut EP Cold, a short album that’s landed her on many of Austin’s finest stages and listening rooms in the last year. Cavazos brings her hallowed talents to an upcoming Microsessions set at Mosaic Sound Collective this Saturday.

Check out the rest of Christina’s Studio 1A set here.

-Taylor Wallace// Host, Thursdays 8p-11p & Saturdays 2p-6p; Producer, Eklektikos with John Aielli

But it may surprise some of you to learn that this Lubbock-born/Nashville-based singer-fiddler’s just released […]

Patricia Vonne: “Cumbia Navidad”

Like it or not, Christmastime is officially upon us. And with no apologies to the Scrooges, Song of the Day‘s final week of 2021 is dedicated strictly to the seasonal stuff. Jac with No K: “Caroline”

Pittsburgh-born poet Jac Carson was inspired early on by ’90s alt-rock soundtracks (Van Wilder and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater to name a couple) before getting his chops up onstage in Philadelphia and eventually moving down to Austin. And it’s here that Carson’s project Jac with No K has really flourished – blurring the lines between […]

Lucas/Heaven: “Every City Has a Rhythm”

Under the handle Heaven the Dude, multi-instrumentalist producer Lucas Gorham’s already gotten some serious love from the electronic/beat crowd. Not too long ago he produced Houston MC Fat Tony’s 10,000 Hours record, making the country-rap concepts a beyond-satisfying reality. But more recently Gorham’s been hankering to tap into something a little more idiosyncratic, leading us […]
