The work of Milan-based cinematic funk group Calibro 35 has traveled stateside before, via samples by Jay-Z and Dr. Dre. But their latest project – a soundtrack for the 2025 documentary Ellroy vs. LA – offers a view of one of America’s most well-known cities through a noir lens. In Riots, their latest single, a mysterious intro gives way to a funky guitar groove and a driving beat, setting the stage for something new hiding in the shadows.
