KUT Afternoon Newscast for October 29, 2025: AISD will sell naming rights to stadiums, performing arts center to raise tens of millions of dollars

Austin ISD and the non-profit Austin Ed Fund are partnering up and getting creative to generate revenue for the district. Whooping cough is likely spreading at Lamar Middle School. A new National Transportation Safety Board report says there was limited seat belt use among students on a Leander ISD school bus involved in a rollover earlier this year. Residents of northwest Travis County and relief organizations say they are still in need of volunteers to help with cleanup four months after storms and severe flash flooding swept through the area. The National Weather Service has put out a Wind Advisory until tonight at 7:00.

KUT Afternoon Newscast for October 28, 2025: Austin ISD parents have until midnight to chime in on the district’s School Consolidation Plan

Today is the deadline for Austin ISD parents to submit comments on the district’s School Consolidation Plan. TxDOT is working to remove all the traffic signals along State Highway 71 between Austin and Interstate 10. Austin Police say the deaths of two people whose bodies were found on Saturday are likely to be related to the heavy rain of the night before. Former Austin City Council member Kathie Tovo is running for a seat in the Texas House. The strongest cold front of the season is moving through this afternoon.

The southbound main lanes of I-35 are set to be closed tonight and tomorrow night in South Austin. The National Weather Service has the area under a Flood Watch starting tonight at 7:00.
