Darkbird at 3Ten

There’s no dark side. It’s all dark – and spectacularly badass. Darkbird reminds you that love and light aren’t mutually exclusive with their latest release, Ballad of A Junebug. KUTX has featured the EP’s fiery electro-groove opener, “Heartbeat,” and today’s AMM spotlight shines on the EP’s title track that slices your heart in two. “Just […]

Buffalo Nichols at Stateside

It was a decision not made lightly. However, even before taking the big step of starting a career in music, Carl “Buffalo” Nichols knew he wanted to honor the music and stories of the past by bringing them into the future. Original blues music – American music – tells the stories of the Black experience. […]

Lala Lala at Empire Control Room

Lala Lala (Chicago-based artist Lillie West) embraces the uproar of meaningful change on I Want The Door To Open, West’s third album as Lala Lala and very much a metamorphosis of her musical style, from a lo-fi vibe to a sharper electro-pop/rock. Within the introspective fray is the pursuit of a truer freedom, where genuine […]

Hard Luck Song Swap at Sagebrush

Today’s Austin Music Minute heaps praises upon the ATX host-with-the-most, Denis O’Donnell, and rightly so. The proprietor of South Austin venue Sagebrush, O’Donnell is also a musician (East Cameron Folk Core 4-lyfe, and don’t leave out The Bread), big time music lover and music supporter, and all-around badass. About

It’s like a marker for your day. When you hear, “It’s time for the Austin Music Minute …” you’ll hear about music artists you need to keep on your radar. Though Laurie Gallardo has been the voice of the AMM for several years, she inherited the short music feature from longtime radio host Teresa Ferguson. It was Teresa who encouraged Laurie to mix it up – make it about local artists’ shows at much-loved Austin venues, as well as touring music acts from all parts of the world. The AMM gets you information about the show – who, what, when and where – and includes a quick preview of the featured artist’s latest music that will hopefully inspire you to check out more. And here’s an important behind-the-scenes detail: Laurie Gallardo not only puts her voice on the Austin Music Minute, she is the editor and producer. She records, edits and puts the finishing touches on the AMM’s you’ve come to rely on.

Laurie Gallardo

Laurie Gallardo is an afternoon show host and producer on KUTX 98.9, making the rounds on the airwaves 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. She’s committed to creating the soundtrack for your afternoon, and to keeping folks posted on shows happening around town with the Austin Music Minute, a short feature heard throughout the day on KUTX spotlighting local and touring music artists.
