Geographer at Empire Control Room
Geographer‘s fourth LP Down and Out In The Garden Of Earthly Delights simultaneously weaves intimate spaces while conveying an epic soundscape – introspection and lush, cinematic panorama all in one. San Francisco-based songwriter Mike Deni embraces it all in his band’s expansive 2021 release examining the human experience. Geographer is on the road in support […]

Me Mer Mo Monday at The Volstead
The Me Mer Mo Monday music series at The Volstead provides endless opportunities for musical discovery with their genre-defying, eclectic shows. And in tonight’s spotlight: A set featuring Justin Boyd, Joey Reyes, and Lindsey Verrill (Little Mazarn); along with Pico Farad and Spencer Dobbs, with visuals provided by Vision System. Me Mer Mo Monday is […]

Superfónicos at Meanwhile Brewing Co.
Imagine the horror of being eaten alive… Rather a dramatic statement coming from today’s AMM, true, but the imagery in “Carroña” by Superfónicos goes for it full force in their unflinching condemnation of political corruption. Politicians playing with people’s lives are the vultures in power, greedily taking all they can and leaving nothing, like vultures […]

Being Dead and Ladyfang at The ABGB
This weekend, The ABGB on W. Oltorf is the hot spot for a must-see bill with two badass ATX bands: Fame Money Death spins a brilliantly twisted merry-go-round ride – in hell. And the harmonies delivered by Juli Keller and Cody Dosier are deviously heavenly. Rolls of boundless energy from art/punk-pop duo Being Dead. Featured […]

Naked Giants at Empire Control Room
Grant Mullen, Gianni Aiello and Henry LaVallee were just out of high school when their 2018 debut SLUFF came sprawling out all over the place with all the things – a pop/punk/garage/surf/rock-out frenzy, with the kind of hooks that grab from the start. In various interviews with Naked Giants (well, a lot of interviews), everybody […]

Another winner. Your Austin Music Minute host has a deep appreciation for dialing it up past 11, and San Francisco outfit FUZZ does exactly that with III. With guitarist Charles Moothart and bassist Chad Ubovich, drummer/vocalist Ty Segall leads the trio in a crashing return to the raw, heavy, thunderous rock that’s always been at […]

About
It’s like a marker for your day. When you hear, “It’s time for the Austin Music Minute …” you’ll hear about music artists you need to keep on your radar. Though Laurie Gallardo has been the voice of the AMM for several years, she inherited the short music feature from longtime radio host Teresa Ferguson. It was Teresa who encouraged Laurie to mix it up – make it about local artists’ shows at much-loved Austin venues, as well as touring music acts from all parts of the world. The AMM gets you information about the show – who, what, when and where – and includes a quick preview of the featured artist’s latest music that will hopefully inspire you to check out more. And here’s an important behind-the-scenes detail: Laurie Gallardo not only puts her voice on the Austin Music Minute, she is the editor and producer. She records, edits and puts the finishing touches on the AMM’s you’ve come to rely on.
Laurie Gallardo
Laurie Gallardo is an afternoon show host and producer on KUTX 98.9, making the rounds on the airwaves 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. She’s committed to creating the soundtrack for your afternoon, and to keeping folks posted on shows happening around town with the Austin Music Minute, a short feature heard throughout the day on KUTX spotlighting local and touring music artists.
