Another winner. Your Austin Music Minute host has a deep appreciation for dialing it up past 11, and San Francisco outfit FUZZ does exactly that with III.
With guitarist Charles Moothart and bassist Chad Ubovich, drummer/vocalist Ty Segall leads the trio in a crashing return to the raw, heavy, thunderous rock that’s always been at the core of their sound. Call it psych-, proto- or prog-metal, whatever suits your mood. Some even see the album as coming back full circle, a return to the feel of the band’s first release. It’s all that, and none of the above. Just absorb the primordial rumblings and lightning bolts, and don’t overthink. It’ll rein you in as opener “Returning” (featured on today’s AMM) immediately sets the mood.
“There is no sum greater than one.” The pieces unite to make that unstoppable whole.
Catch FUZZ at their performance tomorrow night, Wednesday April 6, at the Mohawk on Red River. LA country/cosmic rock duo Color Green opens the show. Doors at 6:30 p.m.
