As the story goes, songwriter Benjamin Violet recalls a very specific time on the road, inspiring the mood of his band Pelvis Wrestley‘s debut LP, Vortexas Vorever. “I woke up early in West Texas on a long drive with my friend, Susanna, intuiting that we weren’t quite east enough,” Violet says. “My mind was set on a glowing hill of granite, and my body was trying its best to catch up. Vortexas Vorever is a tribute to that homeward-bound chase, and a document of what happens when you get where the geology demands.”
Homeward-bound is different for everyone, but those in the midst of vast TX spaces know there’s more to the far-reaching landscape than the land itself. Vortexas Vorever‘s extraordinary blend of glam, country, pop and western ennui all at once tap into a very distinctive vibe, the view of an endless horizon reminding you of endless possibilities. That geology is very demanding.
Pelvis Wrestley performs at a show tomorrow night, Thursday May 27, at the Far Out Lounge and Stage, 8504 S. Congress Ave. The bill includes sets by 20th Year Reunion, SOBBRS, and Lainey Gonzales. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the music starts at 7 p.m. Masks required for entry.
