The ultra-cool groove on today’s Austin Music Minute happens to be the opening track on Magna Carda‘s To the Good People, “Spark the Day,” a seductive R&B/jazz and pulsating backbeat blend featuring guest vocalist Cara Bishop. MC-producers Megz Kelli and Dougie Do have worked together as a hip-hop duo for ten years now, and the dynamic album is a testament to the evolution of their distinctive delivery of old-school and contemporary sounds. Making the album also proved to be a cathartic release for the duo from not only their personal struggles, but grappling with racial inequality.
Magna Carda’s next performance is tomorrow night, Saturday August 28, at Meanwhile Brewing Company, 3901 Promontory Point Dr., sharing a bill with Eimaral Sol. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the music starts at 8 p.m. And please remember to bring your mask.
