Time for some face-melting, and on this occasion, it’s badassery from New York City. SUSU comes from a meeting of super powers, Liza Colby (Liza Colby Sound) and Kia Warren (Revel In Dimes), at a moment in their careers when their bands joined together for a series of one-off performances. The energy was so cohesive, so electrifying, that Colby and Warren decided that this was worth pursuing. And. It. Rocks. HARD. “You don’t know what you don’t know, and we certainly didn’t realize how much we needed each other,” says Colby. “We aren’t shy about being Black women in rock ‘n’ roll. There is an aliveness, an awareness, and a spirituality to SUSU that are both timely and timeless.”
SUSU’s next tour stop is in Austin for a show tomorrow night, Tuesday May 17, at Hotel Vegas on E. 6th. Austin bands Lord Friday the 13th and Die Spitz will get you hyped up and ready. Doors open at 8:30 p.m.
