Austin-based songwriter/bassist Greg Rhodes got the ball rolling for a cool project back in 2013 inspired by his growing interest in playing guitar, and a love of surf music. So began the evolution of The Avocados.
And, if you wanna get into bragging rights: The band’s current line-up includes fellow heavy-hitters Ben Prentice, Alex Marrero, and John Branch. If you’re the least bit familiar with Brownout, Hard Proof, and Golden Dawn Arkestra, you know all this talent instantly makes The Avocados a badass band. And the guys each come from rich musical backgrounds in terms of style – funk, psych, Latin and beyond. A bit of everything was brought to the surf tsunami of ¡Ensalada!, the new LP set for release tomorrow.
Speaking of which, The Avocados are celebrating with a big release party tomorrow afternoon (Saturday Nov. 13) at the Far Out Lounge and Stage, 8504 S. Congress Ave. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and Afro-Latin psych-rockers Serúmn (the new incarnation of the former Continental Drift) open the show at 1:30 p.m. The Avocados play at 3 p.m.
