Austin Music Minute

The title of Semihelix‘s 2021 release, Recoil – meaning to shrink back in fear – is the opposite of the story behind it. Songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Geannie Friedman emotes a dream pop shimmer of resilience, love and uplifting others in the wake of difficult times and that seemingly undefeatable beast, depression.

New music is on the way from Semihelix – and there may be a chance you’ll hear some of it at their show tonight, Wednesday Oct. 12, at Chess Club, 617 Red River. Cleveland experimental art-pop project Factual Brains and Austin-based electro-pop duo Felt Out are on the bill. Doors at 8 p.m.
