Jack White at The Moody Center

It’s a lot of music.

As with many artists, songwriting didn’t stop for Jack White during lockdown. It’s not a faucet. You can’t shut it off. But as each song began to take form, White realized it would be too much for just one album. The flow felt interrupted when he tried to piece it together. It’s not that White couldn’t release an album with a mix of stylistic contrasts. He’s done that many times, but for the new material, something wasn’t clicking. It felt more natural to morph it into two separate LPs.

Some reviewers refer to Fear of the Dawn as the louder, more amped-up of the two (“…it explodes out of the speakers,” enthuses Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s interview with White), with ruthless shredders like “Taking Me Back,” “The White Raven”(featured on today’s AMM) and the title track, while Entering Heaven Alive (out July 22) shows a softer, more acoustic side of White’s multi-faceted talent – such as the lovely, slightly forlorn feel of “Love Is Selfish,” or the folksy swing rendition of “Taking Me Back (Gently).”

You’re in for something spectacular tonight, Wednesday May 25, at The Moody Center, 2001 Robert Dedman Dr. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the evening begins with the mega-badass Chicano Batman. Aside from releasing awesomeness like Invisible People, they’ve opened for Jack White before. They know what’s up.

And now the ATX-by-way-of Philly outfit is ramping things up with two new additions to the line-up, guitarists Steve Pike and Kyle Harris. No doubt extra shreds will add even more discordant dimensions […]
