It’s all in the eyes.
Whether striking an intriguing pose, such as Lindsay Mackin (Annabelle Chairlegs) holding a gilded framework mirror; or holding one’s guitar, like Carrie Fussell (Calliope Musicals) or Jackie Venson; or riffin’ on what would typically be relaxing moments, like Corey Baum (Croy and the Boys) at the grill, or Ray Prim cozied up on the couch with soft blanket and sweet pup; or staring directly into the camera, as Sabrina Ellis does, it’s always in the eyes. And no, glasses don’t really hide it. Perhaps the viewer perusing Ismael Quintanilla III‘s new book I Am Here All Day might be projecting some of their own anxieties or fears. But Quintanilla seemed to capture those feelings in the expressions of several local musicians during lockdown. There is no way to conceal the emotionally draining uncertainty of the times.
Today marks the book’s official release with a virtual livestream concert, presented by Do512 and featuring Jackie Venson’s side project Jackie the Robot, Gina Chavez, Tony Kamel (Wood and Wire), The Dead Coats, The Vaper Caves, Caleb de Casper, Jaime Ospina, Pelvis Wrestley and Glass Shadows. The livestream starts at 7 p.m. (Central) tonight, Thursday April 1, via Do512. Proceeds benefit HAAM, SIMS, the DAWA fund, Banding Together ATX, Free Lunch and Niñas Arriba.
