Gary Numan is a pioneer, the maestro, in the realm of dark electronic sagas, the synth master inspiring generations of industrially-inclined artists of many genres. Perhaps fans are prone to relive the badassery of earlier releases from Numan’s 45-year catalogue (The Pleasure Principle, Telekon, Berserker, Dance), but it’s time to direct the ear toward Numan’s recent epiccinematic soundscape, Intruder, a menacingly apocalyptic vision of climatic and technological forces turning on humankind. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Numan’s current tour in support of Intruder includes a stop in Austin for a show tomorrow night, Wednesday March 2, at Emo’s, 2015 E. Riverside Drive. Electronic experimental outfit I Speak Machine opens the show. Doors at 7 p.m.
