Extra Stream Pick: Shane Cooley

By: Laurie Gallardo

It’s been a different journey, releasing this record, to say the very least. And so many music artists have the same, or a very similar, story.

Shane Cooley recorded 50 Songs at Jonas Wilson‘s Mr. Pink Studio and was poised to unleash the fifty original solo tracks into the world with a flourish. Of course, life happens – in the most unexpected ways that put a major crimp on fun things like album release parties. But Cooley was not deterred. All throughout April, on two evenings each week, Cooley has presented a series of live stream shows featuring his new music. The last two performances are coming up tonight, Wednesday April 29th at 8 p.m. (Central), and Friday May 1st at 8 p.m. (Central) on Cooley’s Facebook page. Donations are welcome through Cooley’s PayPal.

Farm to Table

Bartees Strange‘s 2020 release Live Forever is a remarkable debut, this twist-and-turn cyclone of multi-genre ferocity that feels so organic and effortless that one is left wondering how there’s that much room in the artist’s brain. It’s thunderous, it’s everywhere, and it’s ruthless. So, where to from this point? Bartees Strange keeps the momentum going […]

Saturday Freakout

OH. MY. WORD. This one will stop you in your tracks. But the AMM recommends dancing and flailing wildly about for tonight’s show at Radio Coffee and Beer, 4202 Menchaca Rd. Or consult with your physician to find out if your heart can handle this chaotic musical spree. Did you know??!! Big Bill…is a band. […]

Perfect Middle Hall

You might have heard your AMM host exclaim, “Cactus Lee, what witchery is this?!” over this song. From those opening strums, plain and simple, “Slowly By” is exquisite. It’s the third track on Perfect Middle Hall, the sixth album by Cactus Lee and the follow-up to Texas Music Forever. Like its predecessors, there’s a Texan […]

To What End

D.C. native/Brooklyn-based rapper and producer Oddisee unleashes To What End early next year, his first LP since 2017’s The Iceberg. And as a preview, a couple of tracks are out now – “Hard To Tell,” and “Ghetto To Meadow” (feat. Philly rapper Freeway), the latter of which is blasting today’s AMM. Both are a good […]

Like Neptune

It happened at the beginning of lockdown. Son Little (songwriter/musician Aaron Livingston) found a collection of old notebooks hidden away in a closet. “There turned out to be 72 books in there,” Livingston said, dating back to the first one he received at age 9. It marked the beginning of years of cathartic release on […]

Keep The Vibe Right

The layers of talent in Hard Proof feel infinite, branching out like the baddest family tree around. Back in October, the massive nine-piece Austin-based outfit made extra room for a 16-piece extravaganza known as A FELABRATION at Far Out Lounge, honoring the music of Fela Kuti with help from Kalu James and members of Black […]

Wilder West

The romanticized images of the wild West tend to be over the top thanks to film, especially the so-called “spaghetti” Westerns (the subgenre of Western film made in Europe – namely those of Sergio Leone). Just a few notes of that Ennio Morricone music and you know the gritty, violent exchanges in the harshest sunlit […]
