Delicate Threads

By: Laurie Gallardo

In a word, it’s breathtaking. The first track, “Orb Weaver,” has already carefully drawn you in with a clear picture of the wispy eight-legged creature busily working away: “…And the strands they shimmer with the wind / And I feel better, more than I ever did…”

Solely, the follow up to Natalie Jane Hill‘s first release Azalea, again puts Hill’s spellbinding guitar artistry and alluring vocals into the spotlight, only this time, there’s a more self-reflective tone seizing each moment.

This recording is a first for Hill in terms of collaborating with other musicians in her work, and delving inward for inspiration, rather than looking outward, an introspective narrative sharing the experience of inner growth.

Recorded by Jason Chronis (Tele Novella) at his band’s home studio in Lockhart, Solely is set for release October 29. However, you have a chance to hear some of the new music live when Natalie Jane Hill performs tomorrow night, Tuesday August 31, at The Volstead, Hill shares the bill with Austin-based songwriter and longtime AMM fave Julian Neel. 1500 E. 6th St. It’s an outdoor show, but please bring your mask.

This one gets loud, bold, experimental in many parts, powered by guitar and unapologetic vitality, all inspired […]

Miles and Miles

Put the go-to retro label aside for a minute. The Heavy Heavy moves beyond that with a multi-layered ‘60s sound on their debut EP Life and Life Only. The way Georgie Fuller and Will Turner channel psych and mod influences with folk and soul in a timeless shimmer feels more instinctive than imitative. Then again, […]
