“BAND IN VANS EATING PLANTS.” That’s what drew your AMM host to the video. What the hell?
Leave it to Austin Chronicle trippy troubadour Kevin Curtin to find an angle that piques the curiosity via Instagram. Curtin treats a musical guest to tasty sweets at Zucchini Kill Bakery on E. 53rd. And behold! Andrew Cashen slides into Curtin’s van, sporting a white ensemble and dark aviators that would’ve given Jim Jones a run for his money, accompanied by Sunflower (a “strange servant-y friend,” Curtin described him, though the guy’s name may be Peter). Ripe for drinkin’ the Kool Aid – or, perhaps in this case, kombucha?
This gloriously odd jaunt is in celebration of Cashen’s album Cosmic Silence, his second solo release on Brooklyn-based Rebel Rouser Records. Hear the new music at Cashen’s show tonight, Thursday Feb. 17, at Hotel Vegas on E. 6th. Joining Cashen for the party, but not necessarily signing over their life savings or first born, are Magic Rockers of Texas and gothic Americana artist Katacombs. Doors open at 9 p.m. White robes are optional.
