Song of the Day host Jack Anderson‘s interview with KUTX August Artist of the Month, Deezie Brown, is an excellent deep dive into not only the tales behind the autobiographical 5th Wheel Fairytale, but also the timeline of Brown’s evolution as a music artist, from recording one of his first tracks with the legendary Shorty Mac, to his connection to Chris Bosch, to the creative partnership with Jake Lloyd and the ideas behind Geto Gala.
Additional kudos go to Bryan C. Parker for a great profile in Austin Monthly extolling Brown’s songwriting process, exploring Brown’s (re)discovery of his southern (and musical) roots, and sharing the inspiration – and continued introspection – behind today’s AMM featured track “Hydrate.” It was the moment “hydration” took on a far greater meaning.
This is the show of shows. Deezie Brown brings 5th Wheel Fairytale to life at his release show tonight, Friday Aug. 19, at Hotel Vegas on E. 6th. Doors open at 9 p.m., with spins by DJ Protégé and a set by alt.-soul/R&B outfit Uncommon People.
Malice in the palace.
