Central Texas top stories for March 19, 2025. A Red Flag Warning is in effect today for all of Central and South Texas until nine tonight, but what does that mean? The Crabapple fire north of Fredericksburg is now 90 percent contained. The City of Austin’s hosting an Emergency Preparedness pop-up today to help people prepare for wildfires and other weather-related hazards. For at least six months, the Texas DMV has been tracking drivers who have tried to change the sex listed on their driver’s licenses. Texas lawmakers are considering a bill to prohibit local governments from having guaranteed income programs.

KUT Afternoon Newscast for May 1, 2025: A bill allowing Texans to sue abortion pill distributors passes the Texas Senate.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Austin and much of the surrounding area. The Texas Senate has passed an expansive bill that would crack down on abortion pill prescribers and manufacturers. Current and former UT Austin students have filed a federal lawsuit against the University over their arrests during a pro-Palestinian demonstration on campus last year. Starting today, it costs more to park at the airport. May Day ushers in what is historically the rainiest month in Austin.

Fire departments are preparing to battle suburban wildfires.  WestJet is canceling plans to run direct flights from Austin to Vancouver starting in May. The Austin Record Convention returns to the Palmer Events Center this weekend.
