Even before their 2018 debut full-length Idol Frontier, Austin three-piece Altamesa had already sewed themselves as the city’s resident cosmic Americana aficionados, with mid-tempo rock that draws just as much from Neil Young and Flying Burrito Brothers as it does Tom Petty and Big Star. And while the residuals from Frontier have been more idle than Idol lately, given the live show limitations of quarantine, Altamesa has opened up the throttle and upshifted their sound with a recent double single.
Interstate / Yellow Sky finds Altamesa tossing their typical road map of formulas out the window and into the dust with both of these daring rock offerings, but especially so on its A-side and corresponding music video, “Interstate”!
