Central Texas top stories for July 7, 2025. The Austin area and the Hill Country are still under a Flood Watch until 7PM. Central Texans are grappling with the effects of deadly, flash flooding that hit the area over the weekend. Among one of the worst-hit communities is Sandy Creek – just outside the Leander city limits. Flooding in Burnet County hit the southern part of that area the hardest. Austin-area school districts are offering support to families following the deadly floods in Kerr and Williamson counties. The City of Austin is extending its waterways ban until noon tomorrow.

Williamson County is working to identify areas at risk of flooding. The Texas House has approved a bill to create Education Savings Accounts, also referred to as school vouchers. Austin Public Health has confirmed a case of whooping cough at Del Valle High School.

Central Texas top stories for April 14, 2025. A home explosion in Northwest Austin left six people injured and damaged two dozen homes. The City of Austin is working with artists to preserve art installations previously in the Convention Center. AISD is holding a community meeting today to hear the community’s input on the possible closure of Dobie Middle School. Williamson County leaders are considering building a tollway along Ronald Regan Boulevard. The City of Kyle will not host its annual Gathering of the Kyles this year.

A man accused of fatally shooting six people in Austin and San Antonio in 2023 is now in a state mental health facility. Austin’s sales tax revenue has flattened, and that’s putting the city in some financial strain. Texas State University is changing its contract with a bus company after university-branded buses were seen transporting people to a protest rally in Austin over the weekend. Texas Baseball is the number two team in the country after sweeping Georgia.

Williamson County Commissioners voted today to promote Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey to help oversee the court until a new county judge is appointed. Central Texas top stories for March 11, 2025. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Austin area tomorrow. Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell is resigning to take a position with the Trump administration. Texas will not be participating in the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer program. The Trump administration’s review of federal grants is forcing the Austin City Council to delay a vote on where to build structures that would support giant decks over the highway. The City of Austin is ramping up its emergency response system. Most people feel more unsafe than safe on Travis County roads.
