Sarah and the Sundays at Empire
This is the ultimate love language right here. Mix an abundance of harmonies, anthemic choruses and equally anthemic guitar solos, and the perfect amount of glorious angst, and you have The Living End, the second album from Sarah and The Sundays. The Austin-based band, by way of Connecticut, has also created something quite cathartic, an […]

Ginger Rodriguez at Meanwhile Brewing Co.
Here are pages of an open book that’s still being written. The story emerged when 20-year-old Austin-based songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker Ginger Rodriguez made her musical debut at age 17 with I’m Crying In A Cool Way. The fearlessness in Rodriguez’s vulnerability leaves you anticipating the next chapter. Last April, she released the follow-up, […]

Wil Cope Residency at Hole In the Wall
There aren’t any ghosts in this godforsaken, murky old Gulf Coast motel you’re at, sunken in a bed that may not have been changed since the early ’80s. You’re just staring at the ceiling. An occasional side glance out the dirty window, or at that weird palm tree painting, but…no ghosts here. Only the ones […]

Following critical praises for three new singles, including the title track featured on today’s AMM, Kiko Villamizar is set to release Todo El Mundo on Feb. 18. Merging the tradition of cumbia and tropical futurism, the album’s overall narrative explores immigration, and the entirety of the earth itself. There’s also a constant internal dialogue examining […]
About
It’s like a marker for your day. When you hear, “It’s time for the Austin Music Minute …” you’ll hear about music artists you need to keep on your radar. Though Laurie Gallardo has been the voice of the AMM for several years, she inherited the short music feature from longtime radio host Teresa Ferguson. It was Teresa who encouraged Laurie to mix it up – make it about local artists’ shows at much-loved Austin venues, as well as touring music acts from all parts of the world. The AMM gets you information about the show – who, what, when and where – and includes a quick preview of the featured artist’s latest music that will hopefully inspire you to check out more. And here’s an important behind-the-scenes detail: Laurie Gallardo not only puts her voice on the Austin Music Minute, she is the editor and producer. She records, edits and puts the finishing touches on the AMM’s you’ve come to rely on.
Laurie Gallardo
Laurie Gallardo is an afternoon show host and producer on KUTX 98.9, making the rounds on the airwaves 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. She’s committed to creating the soundtrack for your afternoon, and to keeping folks posted on shows happening around town with the Austin Music Minute, a short feature heard throughout the day on KUTX spotlighting local and touring music artists.
