Ladyfang

Ladyfang: “D C L”

Back in Summer of 2016 a quartet calling themselves A Case For Brooklyn treated the Austin area to an ear-catching original; entitled, “All Your Money”, it was a killer tryst of styles that recalled RHCP, Björk and No Doubt, which is a pretty strong start to say the least. Yet soon after these longtime friends shed the ACFB handle in favor of something a little more ferocious…Ladyfang.

Since that switch, Ladyfang’s flourished atop unfettered feminine flamboyance and chaotic pop rock combos, sinking one infectious incisor after another into listeners old and new. This year, however, we’ll finally be getting a filled-out row from Ladyfang, courtesy of the four-piece’s upcoming self-titled full-length.

Produced by Chris “Frenchie” Smith and Brett Marcom at The Bubble, Ladyfang is guaranteed to be the group’s most coherent experience to date outside of live performances. And the proof is in the premolars! Today Ladyfang unfurled their first foray for 2023 and the eponymous LP’s second lead single. Don’t be deceived by the mellow guitar intro of “D C L”; by the 40-second mark all hell breaks loose in this masterclass of pop rock dynamics.

Ladyfang: “Sidewalk”

It’s almost been a full decade since four glam rockers got together and started their Austin-based indie-alt-pop-rock affair A Case For Brooklyn. That baby tooth of a band name fell out in 2016 and has since been replaced by a more permanent handle: Ladyfang. Ladyfang’s also maintained a high standard of songwriting, giving us bite-sized singles one at a time rather than jawbreaking records full of fluff. On their latest single “Sidewalk” (produced by Chris “Frenchie” Smith at The Bubble) Ladyfang harnesses a Four Loko’s worth of rage fuel with an aggressive instrumental bridge that’d blow away most ’80s metal bands. So get ready to rock out with these cultured cuspids 9PM tomorrow night at ABGB along with Being Dead. Just don’t get lost in the sauce and slink your bones off on the sticky asphalt.

Ladyfang: “Narcissist”

Previously under the name A Case for Brooklyn, the quartet Ladyfang has become a fabulous force of glitter, glam, and the like within Austin’s rock scene. Between their eye-catching outfits, less-than-reverent lyrics, and unpredictable nuances within their genre’s framework, Ladyfang’s kept us plenty entertained for the past half decade. Ladyfang performs tonight at Empire Control Room and tomorrow evening at Indian Roller in celebration of their latest single, whose lush vocal harmonies and satisfying production techniques will keep you grinning to yourself in the mirror before you hit the town, “Narcissist”!

Ladyfang: “Replay”

When it comes to the arena of glitter rock, it’s all about standing out. Enter keyboardist-vocalist Cara Juan and her compatriots in Ladyfang, whose controlled-but-chaotic pop rock helps the quartet outshine other glittery contenders in the Austin scene. That’s not to say Ladyfang just gnashes styles together; rather they floss in between coexistent genres with the eccentric energy and commanding confidence fit for a Lady.

So before you catch Ladyfang 10pm next Thursday at Far Out Lounge, sink your teeth into the group’s latest single, the driving-yet-ethereal “Replay” that’ll live up to its title in another way with guaranteed repeat listens.
