The One With Robert Taylor

Austin FC continued its revamp of its offense with the acquisition of Finnish winger Robert Taylor from Inter Miami in April. Taylor made some memorable moments in Miami, playing with Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets. The 30-year-old spent nearly a decade climbing his way up from some of the lowest divisions of English soccer, through Scandinavian leagues, to trophies and give-and-gos with the GOAT. Austin FC is betting his career will continue to blossom at Q2 Stadium.

The One With The North End Pirates

Brothers Michael Canales and Brian Hensley have been by each other’s side for their highest highs and lowest lows. When the South End of Q2 stadium got a bit too rowdy for them, they crossed the pitch to the North End. They started leading family friendly chants and antagonizing opposing goalkeepers in a slightly mellower (and drier) side of the pitch. Hear how they got christened “The North End Pirates” and what it does for their relationship.

The One Where They Make Tifos

Austin FC supporters have turned Q2 stadium into one of the best environments in Major League Soccer. One way they show their support of the team on game day is through elaborate fan displays, called tifos. These giant banners are displayed for a couple of minutes right before kickoff, but each one takes hundreds of people and weeks to make, and is one of the best ways to get involved in supporting the team.

When Austin FC went shopping in the offseason, the big money strikers captured the headlines. But one unheralded midfield signing has earned a place in Head Coach Nico Estevez’s starting eleven. Besard Šabović joins us to talk about growing up in Sweden, visiting his family in North Macedonia, and his famous great-grandfather – the legendary Jakup Ferri.
