Hi How Are You Benefit at ACL Live
A lot of folks in Austin (and beyond) recognize the frog, and its friendly greeting: “Hi, How Are You?” The benevolent, alien-like froggy face went from obscure art by the late Daniel Johnston to an iconic image after millions saw Kurt Cobain, a big Johnston fan, sporting the design on a t-shirt. (Extra nerd alert […]

Lindsay Jordan takes us through the varying stages of love – namely the maelstrom of emotions in the not-so-lucky-in-love department – on Valentine, the second LP by Snail Mail. The narrative winds through the grief, unrequited feelings, burning desire…all in bigger, broader pop strokes, and Jordan’s incredible voice revealing a soul that’s weathered the hellish […]

Brian Jonestown Massacre at Stubb’s
A lot has happened since Brian Jonestown Massacre made their 1992 debut with the single “She Made Me/Evergreen.” A total of 18 albums were recorded by the various incarnations of the San Francisco-based outfit, led through the journey of ups, downs and unexpected sideways jaunts by songwriter/producer Anton Newcombe. Now, from Newcombe’s Berlin studio – […]

Motenko at Long Play Lounge East
The track featured on today’s AMM, “Waiting All Day” from Motenko‘s self-titled EP, encapsulates the ongoing love letter that songwriter/vocalist/musician Micah Motenko pens to the sounds of Motown, which made a huge impression upon Motenko during his formative years, and remains his number one influence to this day. The roots of this infatuation run deep […]

Samantha Crain at Radio Coffee and Beer
In the early stages of the pandemic, all creature comforts and personal connections took on a greater importance. Isolation tends to do that. Life moments taken for granted or easily brushed aside felt magnified. Intense moments became unbearable. It makes perfect sense that a beautiful, reflective EP like I Guess We Live Here Now by […]
About
It’s like a marker for your day. When you hear, “It’s time for the Austin Music Minute …” you’ll hear about music artists you need to keep on your radar. Though Laurie Gallardo has been the voice of the AMM for several years, she inherited the short music feature from longtime radio host Teresa Ferguson. It was Teresa who encouraged Laurie to mix it up – make it about local artists’ shows at much-loved Austin venues, as well as touring music acts from all parts of the world. The AMM gets you information about the show – who, what, when and where – and includes a quick preview of the featured artist’s latest music that will hopefully inspire you to check out more. And here’s an important behind-the-scenes detail: Laurie Gallardo not only puts her voice on the Austin Music Minute, she is the editor and producer. She records, edits and puts the finishing touches on the AMM’s you’ve come to rely on.
Laurie Gallardo
Laurie Gallardo is an afternoon show host and producer on KUTX 98.9, making the rounds on the airwaves 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. She’s committed to creating the soundtrack for your afternoon, and to keeping folks posted on shows happening around town with the Austin Music Minute, a short feature heard throughout the day on KUTX spotlighting local and touring music artists.
