Hot Flash Heat Wave: “Trippy Luv”

Seasons are quickly shifting, and not just with the weather. We’ll be wrapping up the 2022 season of Song of the Day on Friday, December 16th, winding down this year alongside fellow KUTX creation Song Confessional. If you’re not hip to Song Confessional‘s concept, here are the basics. Volunteers come clean about an incident in their past, and an eclectic net of musicians turn those anonymously-recorded anecdotes into original pieces of music.

Back in late May, Song Confessional‘s summer mini-season closed out with some seriously salacious details; that triple-X tryst in turn inspired “Trippy Luv”, an ethereal, effects-drenched psych-pop-rock adaptation from Hot Flash Heat Wave. But with their Song Confessional episode now far off the radar, (and “Trippy Luv” officially out as a standalone single last week) the San Francisco trio is soon set to embark on a month-long national tour, mainly clinging to the West Coast.

Seven sweltering years of DIY chemistry under their belt, Hot Flash Heat Wave is certain to make the absolute most out of their upcoming time on the road. Sadly, though, there aren’t any tour stops here in town. However, as home to mesmerizing icons like Sir Douglas Quintet, Janis Joplin, Explosions in the Sky, and others, Austinites ought to admire how well Hot Flash Heat Wave flips some pseudo-sixties psychedelia into the timeless piece of indie prog-rock ingenuity that is “Trippy Luv”.

Capyac – EarthMemory part 1

This week’s episode, features Capyac and the debut of their new song “EarthMemory”.

“EarthMemory” was inspired by a crooked doctor who gives out prescription drugs to his patients that are addicts as well as sleeps with them.

And keep your eyes to your podcast feed for next week when Walker sits down with Capyac to hear how they channeled this confession into their latest tune.

Pom Pom Squad – River part 2

This week Walker sat down with the brainchild of Pom Pom Squad, Mia Barren.

They discuss how crazy Pom Pom Squad’s 2022 has been including, touring across the globe, how Mia is taking care of herself amidst the chaos of touring, how she and her band have grown, and what parts of last week’s confession inspired her to write “River”.

If you haven’t heard part 1 before this, go back and listen to the confession as well as Zac and Walker’s thoughts on last week’s confession.

Pom Pom Squad – River part 1

This week’s episode features the confession that inspired Pom Pom Squad’s latest tune “River”.

In this episode, you’ll hear our confessor talk about how his father’s death led to his divorce. You’ll also hear Walker and Zac discuss this confession in-depth and share how they relate to our confessor. And you’ll hear “River” by Pom Pom Squad.

Be on the lookout for part 2 of our episode next week when Walker chats with Pom Pom Squad directly.

Superfónicos – Tu Voz

This week launches the first episode in our new season!

Austin-based, Columbian fusion outfit, Superfónicos, wrote and live recorded a groovy track encouraging us all to get out and vote.
