Central Texas top stories for October 28, 2025. The City of Austin released a list of crosswalks and street murals that may have to be removed under Gov. Abbott order, it includes a giant mural that says “TEXAS” on Guadalupe. State Senator Sarah Eckhardt, an Austin Democrat, is running for Congress. Residents of Sandy Creek met with Travis County officials yesterday to discuss concerns about ongoing flood recovery effort. This weekend the Longhorns will play Vanderbilt, a seven-and-one team in the Associated Press top ten for the first time since the 1940s. 

KUT Morning Newscast for October 10, 2025: Parents raised concerns over AISD’s school consolidation plan last night 

Central Texas top stories for October 10, 2025. Some AISD parents, staff and community members are expressing concerns over layoffs, academic continuity and the impact on low-income communities and emerging bilingual students if the district approves the current consolidation plan. Neighbors are uneasy about a new homeless services center near I-35 and Oltorf. The city of Austin set to remove painted street murals including one saying “Black Artists Matter” and a rainbow crosswalk. The Texas football team will play tomorrow their annual Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma. It’s the second weekend of the Austin City Limits Music Festival, expect an increase in traffic.  

12th & Chicon: Honoring Austin Blacks in Baseball

The Black Senators, Austin’s black baseball team in the first part of the 20th century, played at Downs Field in East Austin. The field is now home to the Huston-Tillotson University Rams. Houston artist Reginald Adams and members of the East Austin senior center are commemorating the players by crafting murals.
