Capital Metro’s board of directors will take a final vote Monday on Transit Plan 2035. Seven groups have filed briefs asking the U.S. Supreme Court to take on the case of Little versus Llano County. Yesterday was Christine DeLisle’s last day as mayor of Leander. Expect lots of traffic around Circuit of the Americas this weekend.

Travis County’s Flood Resource Recovery Center is moving to Travis County Community Center in Jonestown. Austin voters could decide this November whether to increase property taxes. As Austin continues to iron out its budget for next year, funding homeless services is top of mind for many.

Central Texas top stories for July 15, 2025. The Austin area is still under a Flood Watch until 1 p.m. today. Austin City Manager T.C. Broadnax released a proposed budget of $6.3 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. AISD is working on a plan to close certain campuses to reduce its multimillion-dollar budget deficit. Travis County opened a Volunteer Reception Center for those who want to help people affected by the July 4th weekend floods in the Austin area. Lake Travi is now 83 percent full, four feet above its average for the month of July.

Central Texas top stories for July 14, 2025. A flood watch is still in effect for Central Texas until 9 tonight. A candlelight vigil in Leander this weekend helped people grapple with the grief caused by deadly floods in Central Texas over the Fourth of July weekend. Congregants from churches across Kerrville, in Central Texas, are preparing for a lengthy recovery. Austin firefighters say they have no confidence in Chief Joel Baker over flood response. The Austin Independent School District is hosting four workshops this week on its plan to consolidate campuses to save money; the first one is tonight.

Central Texas top stories for July 7, 2025. The Austin area and the Hill Country are still under a Flood Watch until 7PM. Central Texans are grappling with the effects of deadly, flash flooding that hit the area over the weekend. Among one of the worst-hit communities is Sandy Creek – just outside the Leander city limits. Flooding in Burnet County hit the southern part of that area the hardest. Austin-area school districts are offering support to families following the deadly floods in Kerr and Williamson counties. The City of Austin is extending its waterways ban until noon tomorrow.

It’s a busy day at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The Travis County Fire Marshal wants people to go to a professional fireworks show instead of lighting their own. Leander Police have unveiled a new “microchip scanning station” for lost pets. Starting tomorrow, parking at Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park will be limited through the holiday weekend.

Austin is moving forward with plans to put parks on top of I-35 after TxDOT lowers and widens the highway. Austin ISD trustees are expected to vote this fall on which campuses to close during the 2026-27 school year. Texas lawmakers are weighing a measure to allow more state employees to work from home. Advocates across the state say hefty regulations are making it difficult for food truck owners to make a profit. Several City of Austin offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Transportation officials are encouraging travelers to be ready for longer wait times at the airport and traffic congestion this holiday weekend.

Texas women’s basketball team will play in the Final Four tonight for the first time in 22 years.

The City of Austin will receive a $10.5 million dollar grant to reduce fatal and serious pedestrian injuries.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is asking for another shot at throwing out Austin’s marijuana laws. The Austin ISD school board has adopted a budget for the next school year that includes a 78-million-dollar deficit. A former Hays County corrections officer no longer faces criminal charges in an incident in which he fatally shot a fleeing inmate. Leander is looking at using more artificial turf to cut down on the amount of water used for landscaping. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will get new baggage screening equipment soon. Austin Community College is seeing a big increase in enrollment for its upcoming semester.
