Radio Friday

By: Laurie Gallardo

Despite (should that be, “in spite”…maybe “in defiance”?) of the lack of live shows, a lot of incredible music has been born during the pandemic.

Last October, Good Field unleashed a new single that premiered on KUTX’s Song of the Day, “Coyote (Living Free).” Something seductive and menacing about the coyote’s hunt for its prey, witnessed first hand by the band in the wilds of the Hill Country, locked into the imagination of songwriter/vocalist Paul Price. And, in the spirit of spooky season, “Coyote” comes with a wickedly cool B-horror film style music video directed by Zachary Scott. The new track is part of the forthcoming LP Coyote, comprised of several works collected over the years, produced by Jim Eno, and now ready to pounce.

Cut to several months before, during the raging uncertainty of lock down: Star Parks managed to release one of the best damn albums of chamber pop gorgeousness in the history of ever, The New Sounds of Late Capitalism. Keep in mind “chamber pop” is a go-to reference barely encapsulating front man Andy Bianculli‘s influences, ranging from the most obscure exotica to all the reverberations of Motown.

So, would all this music make a great show or what?! You’ll see for yourself when Good Field and Star Parks play a show tomorrow night, Friday May 21, at Radio Coffee and Beer, 4204 Menchaca Rd. The music starts at 7 p.m., and limited tickets are available via Radio’s website.

Following the breakup of their previous psych-gaze band Creepoid, Anna and Patrick Troxell forged an electro post-punk dynamic as the duo Lovelorn. And now the ATX-by-way-of Philly outfit is ramping things up with two new additions to the line-up, guitarists Steve Pike and Kyle Harris. No doubt extra shreds will add even more discordant dimensions […]
