Es la banda gigante, in every sense of the word. Recent KUTX Studio 1A guests Orquesta Akokán released 16 Rayos last year on Daptone Records, the sensational follow-up to their Grammy-nominated 2018 self-titled debut. These talented musicians from Havana and New York, numbering 12 in all (a cozy Studio 1A fit) and led by Cuban vocalist José “Pepito” Gómez, bring an extra fire to the big band stylings of the 1940’s and ’50s.

And now, they’re on another world-wide tour, which includes a show in Austin tonight, Wednesday May 11, at Antone’s, with Austin’s own Money Chicha opening. Doors at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Today’s AMM featured track, “Top of My List,” unfolds as an ode to seizing life by […]
