Lift Me Up

By: Laurie Gallardo

The 2020 Project ATX6 crew was ready for more adventures, following their incredible stint in Thailand to play the Jai Thep Festival. The Austin-based nonprofit showcases ATX musical talent in different parts of the world, and the next stop would be Brighton, England for The Great Escape.

Then…COVID, like that stupid jerk who slams on the breaks without warning, put a halt to all plans. Project ATX6 was forced to cancel the remaining trip. Like their fellow artists round the world, Mike St. Clair, Alesia Lani, Evan Charles, Kathryn Legendre, Jonathan Horstmann and Leslie Sisson found themselves stuck at home.

Keep in mind Project ATX6 is also an ongoing documentary in the making, with founder/filmmaker Chris Brecht capturing the experiences and performances of each year’s selected group of musicians as they traverse the globe. And, amid challenges brought on by the pandemic, Brecht pieced together the latest documentary feature, Lift Me Up.

Brecht is presenting an advanced screening of Lift Me Up at 7 p.m. tonight, Monday May 3, at Long Play East, 1910 E. Cesar Chavez, followed by a solo performance by Evan Charles. It’s a socially-distanced show; masks are required for entry. And full disclosure: Your AMM host has the role of emcee this evening.

No doubt extra shreds will add even more discordant dimensions […]
