KVRX Far Out Finale

By: Laurie Gallardo

This is a fantastic end-of-(school)-year wrap-up for UT student-run station KVRX. The Far Out Finale puts the spotlight on three ATX bands you need to put on your radar:

  • We’re talking self-described nerds embracing sci-fi, anime and unlimited musical styles. As a matter of fact, they have a name for their multi-genre music tastes and the music they create: shillelagh music. Your AMM host is ready for this trip with Austin outfit We Don’t Ride Llamas.
  • It’s your AMM host’s favorite post-apocalyptic post-punk trio with dark synth superpowers. Urban Heat does not fear the term “goth,” either. That’s a good thing. And this is the live performance that will permanently blow your mind.
  • Ruthless. Shows no mercy. They’re coming for your soul and your eardrums. And anyone who lists Black Sabbath, Nirvana and the freakin’ Muppets among their influences is tops on the badass list. Call Die Spitz punk and leave it at that, if you think that’s it, but then you’re missing out on everything else…

The Far Out Finale happens tonight, Wednesday May 18, at The Far Out Lounge and Stage in South Austin. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show kicks off at 7 p.m.

What’s Yr Damage

Following the breakup of their previous psych-gaze band Creepoid, Anna and Patrick Troxell forged an electro post-punk dynamic as the duo Lovelorn. And now the ATX-by-way-of Philly outfit is ramping things up with two new additions to the line-up, guitarists Steve Pike and Kyle Harris. No doubt extra shreds will add even more discordant dimensions […]
