Gimme Eleven Twenty-Nine

Mike and The Moonpies‘ latest Texas boogie shakedown “Paycheck To Paycheck” is undeniably a major tip o’ the cowboy hat to an OG badass known for creating a chorus of the ages that folks might’ve fantasized about singing to their employers. Yes, most people hold dear a very special 1980 film’s theme song as the ultimate bad job ditty, and rightly so, but let us not forget Johnny Paycheck‘s gleefully unruly 1977 hit “Take This Job and Shove It.”  Moonpies songwriter and vocalist Mike Harmeier takes the baton from there with Paycheck in the tape deck “/ and blaring on the radio,”  relating an all-too familiar tale of working for a living – with a sweet shout-out to Paycheck’s “11 Months and 29 Days.”

Before heading out on their summer tour, Mike and The Moonpies have a big show coming up tonight, Thursday July 1, at The Saxon Pub, 1320 S. Lamar. The show starts at 8 p.m., followed by Austin country artist Robynn Shayne’s album release show at 10 p.m.

What’s Yr Damage

Following the breakup of their previous psych-gaze band Creepoid, Anna and Patrick Troxell forged an electro post-punk dynamic as the duo Lovelorn. And now the ATX-by-way-of Philly outfit is ramping things up with two new additions to the line-up, guitarists Steve Pike and Kyle Harris. No doubt extra shreds will add even more discordant dimensions […]
